Deep Dive

7 day yoga immersion

28th Feb - March 6th 2027

A yoga retreat with depth

7 days of practice, understanding, self-inquiry and space to reconnect

Join me in Bali for seven days immersed in yoga - not just as something we practise for an hour or two each day, but as a complete system for understanding ourselves and living with greater awareness.

Throughout the week we'll explore asana, pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy and self-inquiry, combining practical experience with the knowledge and context that gives those practices meaning.

There will be daily practices, workshops, breath work, meditation, philosophy, journaling and plenty of time to rest and enjoy Bali.

But most importantly, we'll look at how all of these things fit together.

Because yoga can sometimes feel fragmented. We learn an asana here, a breathing technique there, perhaps a meditation or a philosophical idea somewhere else - without necessarily understanding how it all connects.

This retreat is an opportunity to bring those pieces together.

To understand not just what we practise, but why we practise it and how it can become part of our everyday life.

More than a yoga holiday

This isn't a retreat where you simply arrive, attend a couple of yoga classes each day and go home.

And it isn't a teacher training either.

It's something in between.

A week of immersive, experiential practice combined with deeper theoretical and philosophical teaching.

You'll experience the practices directly through asana, pranayama, meditation and self-inquiry, while also learning the ideas and principles that sit underneath them.

The aim is to give you enough practical experience to feel what yoga is doing, and enough understanding to know why you're doing it.

Rather than giving you more information to remember, we'll work towards making yoga simpler, clearer and more coherent.

Come for the practice.

Discover what lies beyond it.

What to expect

BRINGING YOGA TOGETHER

One of the things I notice after many years of teaching is that people can practise yoga for years while still experiencing it as a collection of separate things.

Asana. Pranayama. Meditation. Philosophy. Chakras. Mantra. Mindfulness. Self-inquiry.

All interesting in their own right, but how do they actually fit together?

And what are we ultimately trying to do with all of it?

This retreat is designed to help answer those questions.

We'll look at yoga as an integrated system, where the physical practices, breath, mind, philosophy and deeper inquiry support one another.

The intention isn't to overwhelm you with more concepts.

It's almost the opposite.

To take what can feel complicated and make it clearer.
To take what can feel fragmented and make it coherent.
To understand the why behind the what.

Daily Asana Labs

GO BEOND SIMPLY DOING THE POSTURE

Each day we'll have an asana lab - a workshop-style exploration of the physical practice.

Rather than simply moving through a sequence, we'll slow things down and investigate the postures.

We'll break them apart. Look at how they work.

Explore alignment, actions, movement, breath and the relationship between different parts of the body.

We'll look at why certain things are taught, what actually matters and what can sometimes be unnecessary complexity.

There will be opportunities to explore both familiar and more challenging postures, with variations and modifications so that you can work appropriately for your own body.

The emphasis isn't on performing the "perfect" shape. It's on understanding the practice more intelligently.

Pranayama / Breath work

A PERSONALISED PRANAYAMA PROGRAM

Learn how to work with your breath - properly.

Rather than simply teaching you a different pranayama technique each day, you'll be guided through the principles behind working with the breath.

We'll explore the science, techniques, history and traditional understanding of pranayama, while also considering how different practices affect the body, nervous system, attention and state of mind.

You'll be guided towards developing a tailored breathwork/pranayama practice specifically for you.

You'll learn techniques you can actually continue using when you return home, rather than leaving with a long list of practices you never use.

The intention is to help you understand:

What should I practise?
Why am I practising it?
When should I practise it?
And how do I know whether it's working?

Yoga Philosophy

YOGA PHILOSOPHY - MADE CLEAR

The philosophical teachings will explore some of the deeper ideas that underpin yoga.

We'll draw from traditions including Yoga Darshana, Samkhya, Vedanta, Tantra and the wider Vedic tradition, exploring ideas around consciousness, the mind, identity, suffering, freedom, self-inquiry and the nature of experience.

But this isn't philosophy for philosophy's sake. We'll continually bring these ideas back to the question:

What does this actually have to do with my life?

How does an ancient teaching change the way you relate to your thoughts? What does self-inquiry actually look like on a daily basis? How might understanding the mind change the way you respond to difficult circumstances? What does yoga mean beyond the physical practice?

The aim is to make these teachings clear, relatable and experiential, rather than turning them into abstract intellectual concepts.

Meditation

MEDITATION THAT ACTUALLY FITS INTO LIFE

Meditation doesn't need to be complicated.

Throughout the retreat we'll explore simple, accessible meditation practices that allow you to experience different approaches to attention, awareness, concentration and self-inquiry.

Rather than presenting meditation as something you have to become "good" at, we'll investigate what meditation actually is, what we're doing when we meditate and how different practices can support different intentions.

You'll have the opportunity to find approaches that feel relevant to you — and, importantly, learn how to continue them after the retreat.

Space & Time

JOURNALING, REFLECTION & SPACE

Not everything needs to be taught. Some things need time to settle. Throughout the retreat you'll have dedicated opportunities for journaling, contemplation and reflection. You'll be encouraged to take what you're learning and ask:

What does this mean for me?
What am I noticing?
What do I want to change?
What practices actually support me?
What do I want to take home?

There will also be plenty of unstructured time. Time to swim, read, explore, have a massage, sit in the sun or simply do nothing. The retreat isn't designed to fill every hour. Space is part of the practice too.

Experience a traditional Balinese purification ceremony

As part of the retreat, we'll take a cultural excursion to participate in a Melukat ceremony, a traditional Balinese Hindu purification ritual.

Melukat is a sacred practice involving water and prayer, traditionally undertaken as a form of spiritual and energetic purification. We'll visit a Balinese temple, in the form of sacred water site and participate in the ceremony with appropriate local guidance and respect for the traditions and community in which it takes place.

This isn't simply a sightseeing excursion. It's an opportunity to experience an aspect of Balinese spiritual culture directly and to place some of the ideas we'll be exploring during the retreat into a living cultural context.

We'll take the time to understand something of the meaning and traditions surrounding the ceremony before participating, rather than treating it as a tourist activity.

It also provides a beautiful opportunity to reflect on some of the themes running through the retreat — intention, purification, ritual, devotion, transition and the relationship between inner practice and outer life.

You'll have time afterwards to absorb the experience, reflect and simply enjoy being somewhere that carries such a strong living spiritual tradition.

A chance to step beyond the yoga studio and experience a living expression of spiritual practice in Bali itself.

Selected deep dive teachings

The retreat takes place alongside my advanced yoga teacher training, which creates an unusual opportunity.

During the week, I'll be teaching the teacher-training students a number of deeper lectures and discussions.

Retreat participants will be invited into selected sessions where the subject matter can be made relevant to everyone.

These won't be teacher-training classes disguised as retreat sessions.

I'll curate the material specifically so that you can engage with it without needing to be a yoga teacher or have years of philosophical study behind you.

You might find yourself exploring subjects such as:

The philosophy of yoga · The Bhagavad Gita · Samkhya · Advaita Vedanta · Tantra · Consciousness · The mind · Prana · The subtle body · The gunas · Meditation · Self-inquiry

These sessions provide the theoretical framework and intellectual context that can sometimes be missing from a conventional retreat.

Experience & Understanding

The two belong together.

There's something powerful about experiencing a practice. But experience without understanding can sometimes remain just that - an experience.

And understanding without experience can become purely intellectual. This retreat brings the two together. You'll practise and experience yoga through asana, pranayama, meditation and self-inquiry. And you'll understand those practices through philosophy, discussion, anatomy, science, history and context.

So rather than simply being told what to do, you'll develop a clearer understanding of why you're doing it. And when you understand the why, the practice tends to become much more meaningful.

The most important part of the retreat might happen when you get home.

It's easy to have a wonderful experience in Bali. You practise every day - meditate, eat well, you have time to yourself. You feel fantastic. And then you fly home and three weeks later you're back to exactly the same routines. I want this retreat to be different.

Throughout the week, we'll look at how to integrate yoga into your actual life. Not an idealised life where you have two hours every morning to meditate beside a waterfall. Your real life, your work, your relationships, your busy days, your tired days.

We'll explore how to create realistic practices and good habits that can continue when you return home. You'll leave with a clearer sense of what you want to practise, why you're practising it and how to make it sustainable.

What you’ll leave with

Hopefully, more than a few nice photos from Bali.

You'll leave with a clearer understanding of yoga and your relationship to it.

You'll have experienced a range of practices and teachings, explored the ideas behind them, and had the opportunity to consider what genuinely resonates with you.
